The 5-City 5-Alarm Chili-Cook-Off is a fundraiser and benefit for the Community Partnership on Aging Safe at Home Program, which enables eligible residents of the five CPA communities to apply for and receive safety equipment (such as a shower grab bar) in their homes for free.

In addition, residents can also benefit from a Durable Medical Equipment Loan Program: walkers, rollators, wheelchairs and more are available free of charge for qualified residents (note that equipment changes based on availability). Residents can also receive a free in-home environmental assessment by a CPA social worker who will assess the home for fall risks.

The Safe at Home Program was started in response to the overwhelming costs related to falls by older adults. In Ohio alone, costs related to falls total more than $4.2 billion dollars in one year. Falls are also the leading cause of injury, hospitalization, and death to older adults, and can cause an older adult to limit activity and socialization, which can lead to depression.

For more information about the Safe at Home Program, call the CPA main office in South Euclid at 21-291-3902 or the Mayfield Heights office at 440-442-2628.
